One hell of a ride… Get the album and enjoy this awesome indie band before they are found by the corporate rock powers.

Mandana Beigi, One Way Magazine Launchpad #19: The Bosch – Buy One, Get One

This high energy, fast-paced, pop/punk/rock quartet from New York City will rock your world and have you on your feet, dancing, jumping, and screaming before the end of the first track.

They are loud and rowdy and know exactly how to be mean and fun. The Bosch boasts a weird yet powerful sound that is probably what you would get if the Ramones and the New York Dolls were on ecstasy while having an orgy with the Violent Femmes and the White Stripes in a Quentin Tarantino movie!

Buy One Get One is the band’s second independent release and one hell of a ride, going through nine songs in just twenty minutes. They’re fast but focused and never lose control of what drives this super speedy experience. The opening track, “Come on Phillie,” the catchy “Back to the Laboratory,” and the purely instrumental “Napoleon Invades Russia” are some of the favorites on the album. The Bosch boys are good songwriters and have a keyboard player who also plays clarinet and sax, adding a flare of ‘50s rock on tracks such as “Teenage Symphony” and “Matching Girlfriend.”

They play with style and gusto, and just when you think you’ve figured them out, they take a wild turn on the next song. And that could be their greatest asset: having a very unique style without having to stick to it! There are not very many bands that can get away with that, but The Bosch does it well, clean and fun – no compromise, no mess, and not a single boring moment on the album.

If you’re into garage rock, you’ll appreciate the rough production, which exudes a certain sense of intimacy on an album that otherwise could have been a step closer to the bevy of other so-claimed ‘garage bands’ out there with “The” names.
Get the album and enjoy this awesome indie band before they are found (and most likely ruined) by the corporate rock powers.

So this is an ‘ep’ then is it? Not an album in any shape or
form? I only ask because it appears to have NINE whole tracks on it!
Pretty damn good stuff though. Think Violent Femmes with a sprinkling
of Ramones
topping and maybe even add a dash of Devo sauce with Radio Birdman pudding.
Maybe you’d like some Iggy and The Stooges biscuits to round things
off? This is marvellous – someone sign these guys now!

N: How about a dose of B-52s? And I guess, from the pace and feel of
this ‘album’, The Bosch obviously spend days in the studio
daydreaming of the summer, catching the surf, and watching one another’s
beehive coiffures gradually resembling an Afro as the damp summer air
takes hold. 9/10″

Mike Thomas, The Vail Daily News: Veruca Salt’s return a mini-triumph

The Bosch, “Buy One Get One”
Self-released

Stripped down garage rock with horns to boot, The Bosch knows how to have fun. A ska meets garage, meets punk vibe with easygoing, catchy lyrics and no message whatsoever, “Buy One Get One” draws comparisons to music as old as The Stooges or the Clash and as current as The White Stripes and The Vines.

Regrettably, The Bosch incorporates snippets of conversations one may find echoing in the back corners of a party into the album. The songs on “Buy One Get One” certainly aren’t of a serious nature, but the “cute” touch this band from Kentucky shoots for only takes away from the music.

For a self-released project, “Buy One Get One” sounds great; it would be a surprise if some label didn’t pick up The Bosch next time. Fans of The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and other modern day garage bands should take note and consider picking this up, but you might have to go to www.hbosch.net/music/ to get it.

Mix fast paced, high energy poppy punk and surf with a garage sound in a way that makes you want shake the everlovin’ shit out of your cornhole, then throw in some horns and a harmonica, and you get The Bosch. Their album art says everything – a cleaning product bearing the band’s name with a snub nosed pistol for a nozzle. The Bosch is clean and wants to blow you away.

Buy One Get One is loaded with nine cop killers. “Matching Girlfriend” is a ska-ish surfish story of love on Coney Island, while the instrumental “Napoleon Invades Russia” reminds you that destroying all astromen is definitely on the agenda.

Throughout it all, the band remains true to the ideals of living life in unison with, not vicariously through, music that matches the tone of your drug habits. After all, as “Teenage Symphony” so aptly points out, “there’s a party on later tonight.”

HeathenAngel (Leeds, UK): The Bosch Buy One Get One

This album/lengthy EP has found its way to HeathenAngel all the way from Virginia in the good ol US of A. Mixing the Rolling Stones 60s RnB pop with some frenetic New York punk energy al a The Ramones and New York Dolls, this is a feel good garage rock party album that will have you on your feet, dancing and sweating madly before the first track has finished.

Although raw in performance, the production is polished enough so your ears don’t bleed even at high volume and some of the songs are padded out with blasts of saxophone and some keyboards. At 25 minutes long, the nine tracks are unlikely to bore you as The Bosch storm through the album as if they’ve overdosed on caffeine. Matthew Harrison’s vocals have a definite Mick Jagger ring to them but this album is harder and faster than anything the Stones have ever recorded.

All in all an enjoyable and energetic collection of songs which should see the band in good stead for a breakthrough in 2006. Dont be surprised to hear them hailed as the latest cool “The” band from New York very soon.

7.5/10

FMQB: Submodern Buzz

Late last year, a fun little album arrived on your desk from up-and-coming band The Bosch. Buy One Get One is an enjoyable set of lo-fi, upbeat party Rock. The band describe themselves as “what you might get if The White Stripes, The Violent Femmes, and Phil Spector recorded the soundtrack to a Quentin Tarantino movie.” The Femmes comparison might come from singer/guitarist Matthew Harrison’s occasional vocal resemblance to the great Gordon Gano. Buy One Get One kicks off with the one-two punch of “Come On Phillie” and “The Movie Director.” I’m not sure if “Come On Phillie” is aimed at Jimmy Rollins, Bobby Abreu or perhaps none of the members of my favorite baseball team. And “The Movie Director” features some great keyboard flourishes in the background. Songs like “Matching Girlfriend” are almost reminiscent of the nutty, nutty ska feel of Madness. Buy One Get One is the band’s second release, after 2004’s Havin’ Fun, Soundin’ Good. For more on The Bosch, point your browser to www.boschcast.com.

New York quartet The Bosch made the right decision to head to Lexington, Kentucky to record this lengthy EP. Produced by Duane Lundy, Buy One Get One is a cool hard rock experience. Blasting out of the gates with the harsh and catchy “Come On Phillie,” these guys provide nine intense garage rockers played with gusto and style. The band consists of Brett Beyer, Andrew Raff, Matthew Harrison, and Holt Richardson. These guys write great songs and they play like they mean it. Buy One Get One is proof positive that The Bosch is a band to watch. Classy tracks include “Metronome,” “Back to the Laboratory,” and “Tell the Doctor.” (Rating: 5+)

Silent Uproar: THE BOSCH, “BUY ONE, GET ONE”

The Bosch is a Virginia-based [sic] quartet–simple, catchy, and oddly unsigned. The latter part of that statement puzzles me, as Buy One, Get One, from its non-descript album cover and song titles, is the ultimate feel-good record: Humorous, often silly lyrics, smart horn arrangements, and thoughtful songwriting that’s neither trite nor too vintage for modern ears, and isn’t condescending–it’s fun.

As multi-instrumentalists, The Bosch manage to vary their style from song to song, and often it’s not clear whether you’re listening to the same band as the record progresses. “Come On Phillie” is pure rock & roll, utilizing Andrew Raff’s saxophone talents for additional taste, and when he comes back in on “Metronome,” I’m hard-pressed to not be reminded of X-Ray Spex. “Matching Girlfriend” would blend in perfectly on a collaboration between the Mad Caddies and Reel Big Fish, as The Bosch proves they’re as ska-savvy as anyone else. They show this once more, with “Back to the Laboratory,” akin to the Aquabats on speed. Elsewhere, their melodic sensibilities shine through, as in the keyboard-laden 60s garage rock throwback of “Zombie Killer” and the surf-inspired instrumental “Napoleon Invades Russia.”

Overall, The Bosch and Buy One, Get One won’t make you think, but that’s not their aim. They’re making witty, light-hearted tunes, and while there’s no artistic focus or underlying message, it’s a damn fun time.

With the recent passing of the great Link Wray it’s good to see bands still relying on a riff heavy sound unafraid to bring in horns and anything else they feel will add to the stew. There’s also something about the Violent Femmes about these tracks, especially the call and response of ‘Back to the Laboratory’ as well as elements of the Cramps – you may have spotted that in ‘Zombie Killer,’ whilst ‘The Movie Director’ has a kind of harsh propulsion that reminded me of Big Chief. With the horn led party anthems ‘Matching Girlfriend’ and the brighter poppier sound of ‘Teenage Symphony’ you have the perfect 25 minutes to soundtrack the time it takes for frat party boys to get so drunk they don’t know what they are listening to.
